Description “In Fall 2013 Skandalaris Senior Fellow Suren G. Dutia and his wife Jas K. Grewal made a generous gift to the Skandalaris Center to fund the Suren G. Dutia and Jas K. Grewal Global Impact Award, with the first award to be presented in Fall 2014. The award will recognize Washington University students, post-doctoral researchers or recent graduates who create scalable and sustainable ventures that have large global impact. The goal of the award is to invest in individuals and high-growth entrepreneurial ventures that apply technology for developing solutions for assisting under-served, disadvantaged populations by developing low-cost products and services that spur economic growth and catalyze social change. Requirements The team must have at least one of the following: a current Washington University undergraduate, graduate or professional student, postdoctoral researcher, or an alumnus that has graduated within the last 5 years. The WU-affiliated members must comprise at least 50% of the team, and the venture cannot have incurred more than $1 million in debt.
Funding $25,000-50,000 cash award for winning team(s).
Timeline For 2014, a five-page opportunity summary was due on March 24th, with finalists announced on April 16th. For finalists, a ten-page impact statement and two-page personal statement were due on September 2nd, and final presentations were on September 20th.
